We are now day one into our fourth and final week! This is exciting!
Portion sizes are holding steady; I eat as much as it takes to fill me up. I’m not gaining any weight, and while I’m not necessarily seeing much movement on the scale, I do feel great and my clothing (and rings on my fingers) are all much looser. I know my body composition is changing again to leaner. Coupled with my running, this healthier eating is giving me many benefits I knew normally happen, but I didn’t expect to be so noticable for someone like me who has been Paleo for over two years. Wow.
Breakfast: This is where it gets weird. I had some medical tests scheduled for today, so I had to fast in the morning prior to a blood test. Therefore, I didn’t eat my normal breakfast, and I was only able to eat a bag of nuts after the blood test and before lunch. So, my breakfast was small and basically eaten just to stave off some hunger.
Lunch: 10 small-ish chicken wings with mild Buffalo sauce and roughly 6 pieces of carrot and 6 pieces of celery. No sauce for dipping; I just ate these straight. I didn’t get a photo because it would have been weird in the restaurant, but I think everyone can picture what this looked like.
Dinner: Sherry made sous-vide steak with some zucchini that she grilled in a pan with some coconut oil. It was delicious! I seared the steak after she cooked them to give them grill marks and they turned out beautiful!
Thanks so much for sharing your weight loss story and the portion pics. Also, the recipes that you both eat are very inspiring. I tried the plantain and meat bowl and it is phenomenal. Thank you both so much. I went off plan on Day 28, but decided to do another Whole 30 even if I hadn’t messed up. So far I am down about 5 pounds, but very encouraged because I was beginning to believe that for me, for some reason, the scale would never budge. Think I’ll transition over to Paleo after this next W30. I need to continue to learn more, but you and your wife are certainly inspiring, and I thank you.

Awesome! I’m glad you’re seeing some movement on the scale. How about other things? How do you feel? How are cravings? How is sleep? These things all improved for me after my first Whole30 which is why I ask.

I had a good Tiger Blood day recently and a high enough energy level to clean the entire house. Cravings are definitely at bay, which is a relief. A Whole 30 is pretty much the only escape from the enslavement cycle of sugar. It is great to be free! Sleep isn’t a stupendous improvement, but definitely better. Overall, this way of eating is such a markedly better lifestyle than freefall and being trapped in cravings. I would like to see more weight loss. Your portions look conservative to me. Thanks for your example and for asking how the other areas are going.

P.S. I made a spin-off of the plantain meat bowl thing with a sausage/ground beef mix, plus slivered carrots, broccoli, green beans, and Bragg’s amino. But it was inspired by Sherry’s post, so thanks to both of you!
